Must-Do Automotive Maintenance (Part 2)

Part 2 is long overdue, and some of these maintenance items on your vehicle might be too!


7-Brakes - Especially with the everyday traffic on I-75 and 285, your brakes get a workout. Take two pieces of metal and rub them together vigorously, hundreds of times each day and eventually they will erode to nothing. Eventually the erosion will cause you to resurface/replace the rotors/drums and replace the brake pads/shoes. As we all know, stopping is just as important as going.

8-Spark Plugs - There was a time when your spark plugs needed to be changed ever 30,000 miles but now with cleaner fuel, it has reduced the requirement to be around 100,000 miles depending on your driving habits.

9-Air Conditioning Refrigerant - A/C systems are designed to be leak proof, but stuff happens and if your car's A/C system has low or contaminated refrigerant, it will struggle to blow cold air. 

10-Wiper Blades - They're stuck on your windshield day after day, in the hot Georgia sun or in the freezing cold. Eventually the rubber blades of your windshield wipers will begin to degrade. When that happens, it's time for new ones.

11-Fuel Injection system - Although you might not see this service on your maintenance recommendations, the simple fact is the ultra-fine injectors used to spray fuel into your car's engine are susceptible to even the tiniest bits of debris. An interruption  in the perfectly designed spray pattern of your injectors can cost you at the pump, which is why to ensure you're getting the best mileage possible, many experts recommend a fuel injection cleaning service at periodic intervals.

12-Light bulbs- Your vehicle likely has dozens of light bulbs, from headlights to taillights to side-marker lights to license plate lights. At some point, most of us will have to deal with a burnt-out light bulb on our vehicle, which is why more and more we at Landmark do a comprehensive check or light inspection when we pull your vehicle in for service. 

13-Cabin air filter-Most modern vehicles are equipped with a special filter that screens the air coming into the passenger compartment. These filters can keep out mold, pollen, dust and other allergens, and some specially made filters can even screen out odors. But just like any other filter, it collects pollutants in the air and eventually becomes dirty which reduces air flow as well as air quality. This is something that typically needs to be changed on an annual basis.
